Congratulations to Cadet Kristy M. Wheeler, who in 2000 was selected as the first recipient of the Hunter W. Henry, Jr., SMA '46, Scholarship Honoring SMA.  Cadet Wheeler is a senior at Mary Baldwin College, majoring in Computer Science/Business with a 3.4 GPA.  Cadet Wheeler, a native of Richmond, Virginia, is also First Captain in the Virginia Women's Institute for Leadership (VWIL) ROTC Program, and she will receive a commission in the U.S. Air Force upon graduation from MBC-VWIL in May 2001.

Rachel L. O’Connell



Congratulations to Cadet Captain Rachel L. O’Connell, the recipient of the 2001 Hunter W. Henry, Jr. Scholarship Honoring Staunton Military Academy.  A senior in the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership, and holding a 3.7 GPA as a psychology major, with a minor in sociology and leadership, she will receive a commission in the U.S. Army in May 2002.  Cadet O'Connell is also president of ODK, a national honor society, she is a VWIL platoon captain, cadet-in-charge of the Physical Training Cadre, and she is the Chair of the Cadet Training Committee.  She is also the president of the Army Aviation Association of America Chapter, a member of the NCAA varsity swimming team, and she was recently selected to "Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities".

The Henry Scholarship Honoring Staunton Military Academy is a perpetual, $2,500 scholarship, and it will be awarded annually to the Mary Baldwin College - Virginia Women's Institute for Leadership, junior-year graduate entering her senior year in the ROTC program, who is determined by the Mary Baldwin College administration to be the most outstanding cadet, and who will then represent the SMA legacy on The Hill.
